Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Elegant Solution to a real problem What a great product! When I closed my small business 7 years ago, I yanked all the hard drives out of my computers. I recently opened up the business again and discovered IDE disk controllers have disappeared from the market. I was expecting a large fee from a service bureau to recover my data until I discovered Cables to Go's simple and Cheap! solution. I highly recommend this product for recapturing data from old drives. I archived the data from 8 IDE and 2 laptop drives in about half an hour. Problem solved!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! It's a shame there's nothing else like this on the market to even compete. I've used this several times to get quick storage connections for data transfers and drive clone sessions without fail. Perfect for house-call technicians!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best! I used this to recover files and pictures from two un-bootable hard drives. It reads them like an external hard drive. Probably saved my marriage! Easy to connect. On/off switch is a nice feature. Excellent item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from USB to SATA Drive Adapter Cables Perfect Laptop's Toshiba hard drive failed. Lost boot sector, etc. Found software to reconstruct hard drive data and needed hardware (cables) to connect to various laptops and desktops to transfer iPod and other critical files. Initially questioned these cables because picture only showed EIDE connection. Assured by rep that they also contained the SATA connection. Received cables and they are absolutely perfect and functioning as required. One of the transfers is in process as I write this review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works for me One of my computers died. I got this to access the data on the hard drives from that machine without the hassle of physically installing the drives in another machine. The whole thing couldn't have been easier.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good adapter Great internal hard drive to external hard drive converter. Unfortuneatly, i cannot connect my xbox 360 hard drive to it which was a downside. The ide adapter didn't work with an old hard drive which was another downside. Overall, it does the purpose advertised. The ide hard drive i had wasn't suppose to work anyway. I just thought that it would be more universal to connect my xbox 360 hard drive to it. Fast transfers. I transfered 40gb in about an hour and a half which is pretty fast. It comes with a power adapter with the 4 pin molex plug and sata power plug so you can power a sata hard drive or any device that uses a 4 pin molex for power. The adapter came with a switch so you can shut off the drive when your not using it. This can save a lot of power and a lot of hard drives from overheating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding device very easy/powerful This device is one of the most useful I have found, seems every time i turn around I need to try and save personal off a drive that is either not accessing traditionally or the computer has stopped working. Being a USB 2.0 device means very fast compared to IDE. Before I purchased this device it took removing the HD and opening my case and attempting to connect the bad drive internally to my PC, this changes all of this. Absolutely love it portable powerful and fast best thing in a while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple & Easy My computer crashed and couldn't be restored. I bought a new machine, but it only has SATA connections and my old data drive was ADE so I couldn't move my data. This device worked perfectly. Right through a standard USB port I was able to move all of my personal data and files from an otherwise unusable hard drive to my new machine with just a few clicks of the mouse. I am even able to use this cabling to turn my old drive into an external backup drive. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use, seems well made I bought this to pull data off of hard drives from old computers. It has a USB-to-IDE cable and an external plug-in power supply designed to power standard drives. Use is pretty much automatic: you plug it in and turn it on. It worked very well on IDE drives (I didn't test the other options). It sometimes took a couple of tries to get the drive to be recognized by the computer (hence only 4 stars). Once recognized, the data transfer seems fast. Very nice solution.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am thoroughly surprised I had several old drives that I thought useless but I didn't want to throw them away. I saw an associates accessing some old internal drives and I asked how can you use old drives. He told me yes you can use old internal drive just like external Drives; he told where and which cables to buy and I ordered your cables. Wow, I was able to access my old internal drives and I found so much information I had forgotten was there. I am thrilled...Thanks ever so much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Worth the Money Without this tool, I would have to open up machine after machine until I found one I could slap a clients' HD in to recover data, making sure to have a running box from every hardware generation and configuration. This is time consuming and frustrating. I knew there HAD to be a better way, and this is it. You can hook up ANY SATA or IDE (desktop or laptop) drive (HD or DVD/CD) to your USB port and use it as a USB drive. Many time saving applications. I love it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware of this product-it is flawed! I am an M.D./Ph.D who is very computer savy. I purchased the CablesToGo product as a second IDE-to-USB adapter to keep in my office so I could connect my old backup hard drives which have lots of important patient data on them(all PC/windows XP based). I have a 20 GB Winchester hard drive from an old Gateway desktop which was Windows formatted in FAT32. Using my old ide-to-USB adapter, this hard drive links/works perfectly with any and all of my three desktop and two laptop PC's. However, when using my brand new CablesToGo product, the same drive, while initially recognized by all the same computers, fails to be assigned a drive letter in Windows explorer (thus it can't be used....and the Windows disk management can not see the external hard drive at all!). Switch back to my old ide-to-USB adapter, and the drive is again recognized, assigned a drive letter, seen as a healthy FAT32 formated drive (single partition) in disk managment, and fully operational. The CablesToGo product just won't work with this otherwise completely healthy hard drive. Importantly, the instructions that come with the product warn that this exact situation can occur "if a drive has a bad Windows partition (which mine clearly doesn't), has faulty data (which mine clearly doesn't), is formatted in NTSF (mine is in FAT32), is defective (which mine clearly isn't) or was formatted by third party software" (I haven't a clue what that means). Either way, this product seems electronically more sophisticated than my old adapter, as it has more lights, bells and whistles on it. This is not necessarily a good thing, as the CablesToGo adapter clearly doesn't work for me at all...and I seriously know what I am doing. I would avoid this product unless you are working with very new (sata level) hard drives. I would like to keep this product, so I would really appreciate some useful feedback from the CablesToGo tech reps. Thus far I'm completely dissatisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great device! I ordered this two days ago and got it via UPS today. I opened the box, conected the IDE adapter to my HDD, plugged the four pin power supply adapter to the HDD, plugged the power supply in, and connected the device to my computer USB port. In less than a minute, I was looking at Windows Explorer and my HDD via the new adapter. Two minutes later, I was backing up my computer HDD to the external HDD via the adapter. Great device and great service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Data recovered from broken computers My laptop is my work horse between work, home and school. When the hardware broke, I discovered my last backup was three months ago. Using this adapter I quickly recovered my data off the hard drive. To use, pull out your hard drive and plug into the adapter. Then plug into a USB port to mount the drive. I tested several hard disks on different Windows and Linux machines with various results. Over all the adapter does the job nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised My PC computer crashed. I did not know if it was the hard drive or motherboard. I connected the hard drive with the usb to my laptop computer and the hard drive was working perfectly. I then downloaded some of my most important files to my laptop. I can now use the setup to transfer files from hard drive to my new computer. I might even use the old hard drive as an 80GB backup for my new computer through the usb port.

Now he’s back producing his usic and creating hits for his clients who happen to be up and coming R&B artists! Thanks For the easy installation and instruction pamphlet that was included! I will definitely recommend this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasently Surprised! I ended up with an IDE drive when my antique computer motherboard died. Well I hated to toss it so I looked around and found a good price and reputation at Cables to go. For a few bucks I simply connected up, as per easy instructions, and low and behold I had another 18 gigs of memory to use. The real pay off were the old family pictures I had forgotten even existed! Yeah, buying the adaptor cable was well worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect!!! I had high hopes for this product and it did not disappoint!!! Our old Gateway computer just stopped running one day ... possibly as a result of a massive electrical/rain storm the north east had in Nov/Dec 2008 ... lights and other electronic equipment seemed possessed ... going on and off ... repeatedly ... even though all of our electronics are on surge protectors, when turned on after that, our old gateway would not boot up nor would it turn off ... only the fan seemed to work ... went searching for Drive Adapters but most others had that Mission Impossible feature to them where the drive you were trying to rescue started smoking a few minutes after being hooked up to their faulty power supply. Many thanks to those reviewers who praised this product. THEY WERE RIGHT"!!! I connected the old gateway's hard drive to the Drive Adaptor and then to the computer and there it was! Actually, there was a 60-90 second delay between plugging the adapter in to my IMAC and my old hard drive appearing in my Finder window. In fact, at first I thought it didn't work because the drive was fried (which was very much a possibility) ... but after waiting about a minute or so, there it was with all my old files. I am Soooooo Haaaaaapppppppyyyyy!!!!!!!! Thanks Cables to Go for Saying what you mean and Meaning what you say about the quality of your products. It's so sad that competence is so rare these days ... but not here!!! It just works! Hey Incompetent Drive Adaptor Companies - Is that too much to ask in exchange for our hard earned money? Hope Cables to Go puts you out of business where you belong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This one is a winner! I had several IDE drives with critical information and had tried to install them in the box. Awkward, time consuming, and frankly didn't work. Purchased this unit and in a minite I had three interchangable usb drives that my machine recognized immediately. I keep my most important ide drive connected all the time and can draw files from it instantly. Great device that has saved me a great deal of time and effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product delivers and is easy The product is easy to use. I was able to use it with a laptop SATA drive, 3.5" PATA and SATA drives. The USB connection was picked up by both Vista and XP with no issues. It allows moving data from drives without having to take apart the computer you are moving the files to. A retail store wanted 5 times the amount for a one time move of the data. This allows me to do it any time I need for 1/5 the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from life saver My laptop hard drive failed and had to be replaced. That means all the pictures that I had backed up onto my laptop would be lost. I purchased the adapter and connected it to my removed hard drive and was able to retrieve my pictures. What a relief. Now I intend to purchase an internal hard drive [ for a PC ]but use it as an external and with the adapter use it as a back up drive. Thanks Cables to Go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A PC Tech's No PC repair technician should be without one of these. When my clients' workstation crashed due to motherboard failure, I used this adapter to transfer data from the old hard drive to the new one. They were back up and running in less than an hour. The best part is that it's fully compatible with IDE and SATA. Pair this with the notebook hard drive adapter and you're ready for anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed to recover HD data Have used this little dandy several times to recover and or transfer data from a variety of hard drives. It eliminates the need to mount the hard drive inside an external or internal case. Works on eSata, IDE & notebook type hard drives. If you want to be really slick buy a set of the rubber cases also. Makes the set up a little more secure when recovering HD partitions.

I am getting windows7 64 bit error. Windows was unable to install your USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge. Windows could not find driver software for your device. Where do I get the software driver?

Asked by: Anonymous
There is no software for this device. It uses the USB mass storage device driver that is built into the Windows OS. I would recommend trying a different USB port on the computer or if available trying a different computer. If it is still not working please contact our technical support at 800-506-9607.

When I plug the usb into my computer (after following instruction manual), Windows 7 says "Device driver not successfully installed. Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed."

Asked by: Anonymous
The 30504 does not have any drivers. It should be plug and play. I would recommend trying a different USB port. If you get the cable to work with the WIndows 7 computer you should follow these instructions: Windows will automatically assign a drive letter. If it does not, you will need to troubleshoot the set up. You will need to try the following steps: 1. Open up Windows Device Manager. Check in the USB section, you should see “USB Mass Storage Device” listed. If it is not listed, then try reconnecting the adapter, and or test the adapter with another computer. If it does not appear the adapter is not working properly. 2. In the “Disk Drives” section of device manager, look to see if a USB drive is listed and identified by make and model. If it is not, then the drive is not working properly. 3. Open up the Disk Manager by going to Control Panel (in Classic View) and then opening up Administrative Tools / Computer Management / Disk Management. If the drive is not listed, Windows cannot properly see the drive due to a problem. If the drive is listed then the Disk Manager can help you diagnose the problem with the drive.
