Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for "dead" computers! Used this device to retrieve information from a "dead" PC. Popped the drive out, plugged it in, and was able to retrieve all of the data. Whew! Also good for whipping together "temporary" drives to hold information when you are trying to re-arrange data and need temp storage. Great implementation and a useful piece of equipment to have in your bag. Compact as well!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just exactly what I wanted. I had scrapped out several outdated computers but kept the hard drives. There was data on the drives that I wanted to transfer to my new computer and data that was private that I wanted to erase. With these cables I was able to do both and am now re-using one of them for a data monitoring system after clearing it all out and re-installing a new OS. Thanks! Perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works period. After 1.5 years of inserting 6 floppy disks into my Dell Dimension 8400 (purchased prior to November 2004), in an attempt to boot (computer failed during a system restore), I bought the USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial ATA Drive Adapter Cable. From box opening to data recovery took about five minutes. My laptop recognized the drive immediately. It worked for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from doesnt work on mechanical drive failures attempted to retrieve documents off my dead laptop hard drive. Could not gain access to anything. If you think your hard drive has mechanical failure like mine (I did a hard shut down when windows froze, probably damaging the platter etc,) then it may not work for you. But it was worth a shot nonetheless.3 stars for detecting drive and simple installation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Product worked great My Primary Laptop hard drive failed. I was able to use chkdsk to reassign sectors. Then I needed to copy my 120G drive to my new 320G. I bought The USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial ATA Drive Adapter. This allowed my hardware connection for my software copy application to copy the old drive contents. Then I installed the new 320g drive and all problems resolved

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ide or sata drive adaptor laptop mother board was fried and could not read the hard drive with precious pictures. Only problem is how to read the files. Cannot double click. You need to right click and view the properties. once you find the folders then you can double click to open. Easy to copy files to your new computer and then try to open them in your new hardrive..

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Emotional Cable? Took forever for the cable to send the signal to the PC. Finally figured out it only would recognize it the first time if all was plugged in first, especially USB, then power was switched on. Directions that come with it are lacking. Connections must be very tight. Not pleased with initial performance seeing as how expensive the cord was.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty Cool Gadget! I use this to get easy access to the boxes of old hard drives I have laying around. In Ubuntu, partitions mount automatically if recognized. If not, the drive is still accessible with the Disk utility, and can be reformatted. This, along with the silicon drive protectors (product number 29566), makes that box of drives usable again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A MUST HAVE IN THE I.T. ARSENAL!! WITH THIS CABLE, POP-OUT ANOTHER PC'S INTERNAL HD, AND TEMPORARILY CONVERT IT TO AN EXTERNAL HD ON YOUR PC. IT IS SO EASY TO THEN USE YOUR OWN APPLICATIONS/UTILITIES/TOOLS (i.e ANTIVIRUS, CHKDSK, DEFRAG, DISK IMAGING, DATA X-FER, & ETC) FOR ADMINISTERING & DEBUGGING DRIVES. THIS PRODUCT HAS A PERMANENT HOME IN MY I.T. TOOLBOX!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Will get another! Fantastic product! Works in situations where I couldn't use a similar product by another manufacturer. I didn't exhaust the possible work arounds, but couldn't get it to go past the 2 TB limit on a 3 TB drive. I WILL buy another as I need to sometimes have 2 drives connected and the first adapter I bought isn't as reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from USB2,0 to IDE Adaptor Saved the Day This product helped me to recover most of my partially failed laptop hard drive. All I had to do was hookup the hard drive to it and plug it in the USB port and voila, instant access to my hard drive's data, e-mail, pictures, music, and other assorted data was easily recovered. Thank you cables2go, your product saved the day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PC hard drive USB Adapter for laptop WOW Compact, simple, easy instructions. It works! MY PC motherboard crashed. I removed the hard drive, plugged in the cables following the included simple instructions. MY PC HD now sits next to my laptop and works perfectly. Cables arrived quickly. Worth every penny. It took longer to open the package than to install and connect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Need User Friendly Instructions This product was recommended to retrieve files from a broken computer. All I got was a box, cables and some instructions that were hard to follow. Would be nice if the directions included some type of picture diagram for those of us that are cable challenged.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Great Had desktop PC that crashed, was told hard drive likely failure and data lost. Big Box tech dept. said $100 to do in-store diagnostic and another $150 plus to try and recover data. I had this adapter out of the box and in 2 minutes the usb in my laptop connected to the old hard drive. All files were recovered !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Indispensible Tool The USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial ATA Drive Adapter is an excellent device. Not only was I able to retrieve files from a couple of laptop hard drives thought to be inaccessible I was able to rehabilitate them, excising spyware and viruses that made the drives useless and dangerous. I'll keep this one for a long while.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great cable! Wonderful cable - was able to recover files quickly. Was not able to mount the bad drive on my PC as it had a bad windows partition, but worked great on my Mac, was able to copy all the files needed to get the user back up and running after the BSOD. Would definitely recommend this cable for any IT professional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Computer Product! One of the best products I've seen in years. I had old drives and needed to wipe them and with only a laptop to use it was impossible, but this little jewel changed that! It was up and running in minutes without any technical trouble and works like a charm! Recommend for the expert and novice alike!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product I have used this adapter several times to recover data from "crashed" hard drives. Previously I would have had to open a working PC and install the "crashed" drive to do this. This adapter makes it much faster and easier. All drive functions are available, so all disk utilities will work with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant My PC motherboard stopped recognizing all SATA devices. I was able to pull the hard drive, connect it to the USB port on my laptop via this cable, and transfer critical files over while waiting for a replacement board. This cable worked exactly as described and saved me a lot of headaches. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product I used this same product at my last job and I was amazed how well it works. I purchased this for personal use and I recommend this to all IT professionals needing to transfer files, back-up files, or copy files from a drive in an otherwise broken computer. Buy this - you will not be disappointed

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Save and/or restore old hard drives Very handy product. CD/DVD Drive, Floppy, or IDE/SATA all easy via USB. Saved a couple old hard drives, confirmed one was shot, ended up with an external 500GB backup drive. Works on all OSes so far. (Win?\Linux). Likely be great to make use of a floppy or cd drive on a machine without one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great! This works great and as intended! I'm able to use it to connect external drives without having to open a machine. I am also able to recover documents from failed drives. Though you can't recover from the drive if somehow the MBR is messed up/corrupted. Or if the drive is too far gone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the Best Investment I Ever Made Let's just say that I already saved people in our business thousands of dollars and time & effort by retrieving data from a computer that crashed. All the pictures, video , memories, school work, presentations, etc....all retrieved from this one device. Who could ask for anything more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great timesaver. Used this while testing migrations from Windows XP to a new Windows 7 computer. We wanted to make sure we didn't miss anything being copied over. I just pulled the old drive and connected this up. I copied over all directories we thought we MIGHT need, and it finished really quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from External Laptop Hard Drive connectivity One of my clients' laptop video went out and he, (nor I) could see what was occuring long enough to retrieve his files. Once removing the HD from the laptop the cable from you guys worked perfectly, we were able to download all his data for him to his new HP system he purchased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Easy To Use After trying other tools like these that did "not" work, this one takes off flying from the get go. I run Vista Ultimate, and it picks up every hard drive I need to work on. Just remember, when it doesn't, it is the hard drive itself that is broke. Very easy plug and play item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Serial drive adapter Product as advertised. All components labeled. Worked AOK in accessing an old IDE drive. Instructions chould be clearer for one-time users. i.e. Old IDE drives can be directly connected and the USB port provides the power to the drive . The power brick is not required.
