Use this adapter cable to connect your inkjet, laser or high speed printer to a computer without a parallel port. Forget the hassles of IRQ sharing by adapting your printer to USB. If you have multiple printers, you can eliminate the need for a switchbox by connecting each printer to a USB port.

The device is fully transparent to the user and is ideal for true bi-directional communication. This adapter auto-negotiates hardware recognition for faster protocol setup, and is fully plug-and-play compatible. This adapter cable is a perfect accessory for Microsoft® Surface® products and other leading laptops.

Note: This adapter is designed for use with a standard Parallel printer and is not designed to support multi-function printers or other parallel devices. This adapter uses the USB Printing Support function of the operating system and is not designed to create a LPT port.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did the Job Did what it was supposed to do in making use of an older parallel interface printer from a newer motherboard that had no parallel ports on the backplane.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent product I have some old zip disks and a drive that doesn't have a USB port. My laptop only has USB ports. How do I get the pictures from the disk to the computer? I went to the store and bought the wrong one. Who knew there are two different types of IEEE-1284 cables? I was able to enlarge the picture on cable-to-go's website to make sure I was ordering the right one this time. It works great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inexpensive solution This works great for a user that has a reliable printer(HP 1100 series) that has a Hewlett Packard mini centronix port. They can then use this adapter cable on a computer that does not have a paralel port and still utilize their existing cable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from VERY HAPPY! I was so happy to get this cable. I have a HP Lazerjet 4000. I have owned the printer since 1998, used in a business setting-never had a problem with it. I bought a new computer that was not compatible with the printer. I was told be Dell that the adapters don't really work and they would be more than happy to sell me a new printer. I could not see getting rid of my current printer for no reason. I checked the local Radio Shack, they did not have the adapters either. I found this adapter, and ordered it. With Windows 7, the driver is already built in. All I had to do was plug it in, wait for it to register, and I was up and running with my old printer. Made my day!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Windows 7 & HP Color LaserJet 4500 I needed a cable that could talk an out-of- production HP Color LaserJet 4500 printer. HP Printers and cables have a non-standard cable connection to the printer with a standard parallel connection to a 25pin parallel hook-up. This product was able to connect to the 25pin parallel end of the HP cable and provided the appropriate USB drivers to operate with Windows 7 software.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This cable worked. Cable allowed me to connect new PC to old HP Laserjet printer.I did have to contact the customer service tech help to get printer to print any document.Would only print certain documents at first. The tech dept. helped me figure out that I needed to change the printer driver setting on the PC. I set it to the original HP 6P/6MP driver instead of the 6P/6MP postscript driver that was auto-installed when I first connected the cable. Now it prints all documents just like the old computer did.

I am trying to use this cable as a communication cable to another device. I was able to do this with a 25 pin ribbon cable on an old computer however my current computer only has usb ports. The cable is detected, however I am not able to assign it a LPT1 or LPT# address. Is this possible with a net use ltp command, or is what I am attempting simply not possible??? I really need your assistance, thanks.

This cable will not appear as an LPT port. It will appear as a USB printing support. It is only to be used with standard parallel printers. The printer port that you would select would be USB001 or USB002 depending on which one is available. It will not work with any other parallel device besides a printer.

Is there a way to turn off ECP mode? Device Manager shows IEEE1284 ECP Parallel Port LPT1. Don't want ECP mode, just old school. It used to be the BIOS setting, but LPT port modes may not be there since motherboards don't offer LPT ports. W7 OS Laptop.

Asked by: Dave
The mode is at PC level, the cable does not determine this.

I have a Zip 250 drive which needs to connect via a parallel port. Will this cable allow me to connect via USB so I can retrieve my old files? I'll be using Windows 7 and have access to both 32bit and 64bit.

Asked by: Anne
This is a USB to Parallel cable, however our cable is only to be used with a Printer.

I have software that requires a hardware dongle be attached to the parallel port at all times to validate the software. Does this cable support dongle communication? Also, is it compatible for use with VMware?

Asked by: Systems Engineer
This will not work with a parallel dongle. Our adapter will not be recognized as an LPT port. It is recognized as USB printing support.

I've only read reviews of this cable working with HP laserjet printers. I cannot find if it has been compatible with no problems for an HP large format designjet plotter for CADD drawings. Specifically a designjet 430. Is it compatible? Also, why don't you offer longer lengths than 6'?
Asked by: brian
This designed to work with standard printers. It works best with the driver built into the Windows OS. We cannot guarantee it is compatible with that HP DesignJet 430. You can extend the DB25 side with an extension cable if you need a longer length.

I have several of these USB to Parallel adapters and we have a serial device that needs to be connected to a computer with no serial port. Can I use a parallel to serial adapter with this to achieve my goal?

This device will not work in that capacity. Please view part number 22429 for a USB to DB25 Serial adapter cable.

Will this work with Windows 10, specifically the 64 bit Home Premium version with latest "upgrade" from MS, 1511, I think, that breaks regular pci/pcie parallel ports.

Asked by: RichE
Our adapter is compatible with Windows 10. Our device is recognized as a USB printer not a LPT port.
