Product Description
Use this adapter cable to connect your inkjet, laser or high speed printer to a computer without a parallel port. Forget the hassles of IRQ sharing by adapting your printer to USB. If you have multiple printers, you can eliminate the need for a switchbox by connecting each printer to a USB port.

The device is fully transparent to the user and is ideal for true bi-directional communication. This adapter auto-negotiates hardware recognition for faster protocol setup, and is fully plug-and-play compatible. This adapter cable is a perfect accessory for Microsoft® Surface® products and other leading laptops.

Note: This adapter is designed for use with a standard Parallel printer and is not designed to support multi-function printers or other parallel devices. This adapter uses the USB Printing Support function of the operating system and is not designed to create a LPT port.

Rated 5 out of 5 by The nonGeek Geek from It works great in Vista! I'm extremely pleased with this usb to parallel adapter. I purchased an adapter from another source (cheaper) but it simply would not work with Vista. Then I purchase the adapter from cablestogo and hoped for the best. Wow! It worked and worked well so I would highly recommend this for Windows XP or Vista. Warmly, Bob "The nonGeek Geek"

Rated 5 out of 5 by F. Cisco from Keep that trusted older printer working Extends your old printer cable to your new computer USB port with quality conversion cable. Local computer stores had nothing but a junk 6 foot cable of questionalbe quality. Saved several clients from giving up their $2,100 color laser printer and trusted HP Laser printer with a quality USB conversion cable for their new computer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Applegater from Absolutely Meets My Expectations! This cable adapter appears to be as well built as any assembly I've encountered, and as a retired manufacturing engineer, I've seen many. It's beefy, but not over-designed. I use this adaptor between my old, but reliable, LaserJet 5L and my laptop running Vista. I simply plugged it in and went to work checking it out. It has been in service for 3 weeks and, so far, has done the job every time. I don't notice any apparent time delay as compared to my inkjet printer. Five stars for this one. For me, it doesn't get any better!

Rated 1 out of 5 by Dave from Not That Easy I tried to get this to work for my HP Deskjet 722C with my new pc. I am running Windows 7. The connection was automatically made for a 720C, but I could not print anything. I would rate myself as a higher end user. Things are not always that easy as they seem! I am not giving up and still trying to make this work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by tj software from Great find for old printer My very old HP 4L Laser printer has been brought back to life with this cable! I print just a few things a month, but I upgrade my laptop every other year. Was keeping an older laptop that had the original connector for the printer, but now with this cable I can use it on my new laptops and it worked perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by gsm from Solved my problem Connected a HP Laserjet 4 printer to a brand new Windows 7 install because my user simply could not part with the printer. The cable was the perfect solution allowing me to connect an old parallel printer to a USB port and simply following the included installation instructions got me up and running with little hassle. I have to admit I did do a little research to find the solution and your website did the rest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by VK from Saved my old printer from the dumpster When our company changed computers I was told that I should get a new printer since the new machines don't have parallel port. Instead, I bought this cable, followed included instructions, downloaded the printer driver and everything works perfect. My HP Laser Jet 6P is still a much better printer then any ink-jets which drink ink by gallons. This cable let me keep it and I'm very happy for that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lazyduck from IEEE-1284 USB Printer Cable Cable connects to printer cable not to printer. Can be used to extend a parallel cable to USB port. Flimsy clear plastic over shield cable construction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dave At The Office from Just what I needed. The old computer went down; had to get a new one... Windows 7, no 25-pin port for my HP LaserJet 6L printer. Got USBs, though. What to do? Google it! The answer: Cables To Go, and this parallel to USB adapter. Did it work? Just like it said on the package: "Plug and Play." Windows 7 recognized the printer immediately. I opened the Devices and Printers folder to add the 6L and it was already there. I made it my default printer and started printing out forms; a very happy camper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Happy from Great product ! I bought and returned other cables for parallel to USB that did not worked with my printer so I researched and found on the web "Cables to go" and from there on easy as pie.I got my cable quickly and cheaply to connect my old HP 1100 laser jet to my new Mac laptop, which of course does not have a parallel port;plugged it in and ready to go,no drivers no adjustments to do. It works great.I saved having to buy a new printer plus I hate to trough things that work well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Two Peppers from Cable Saved My Printer Again I have an Epson Stylus Photo 700 printer that has been my workhorse and it has served me well. Every time I am forced to get a new computer, I have to do all kinds of special stuff in order not to have to throw the printer away. The 6ft USB to DB25 IEEE-1284 Parallel Printer Adapter Cable saved me this time and my Epson started printing as soon as I installed the new cable. I had no problems at all and I was able to save my Epson 700 printer one more time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Chuck from Perfect! Just As Advertised. Like many, I brought a new computer home only to find out that there was no way to connect to my existing printer, except through an adapter. This one couldn't be more perfect. Got great telephone direction, and then bought it on line. Plugged it in, and I'm back printing again. I could live without the silver color, with just basic black, but that's a minor quibble compared to the cost of a new printer. Great service and product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mary from Perfect solution! I was looking for a way to use my old but reliable HP Laser Jet 1100 with my new Dell laptop that only has a USB printer connection (my new Dell printer has already cost me a fortune in ink). HP said that they did not sell or support any cables for this purpose. The salesperson I spoke with at Cables To Go was extremely helpful and suggested this cable which works perfecly. I am extremely pleased with this product and their service.

I am trying to use this cable as a communication cable to another device. I was able to do this with a 25 pin ribbon cable on an old computer however my current computer only has usb ports. The cable is detected, however I am not able to assign it a LPT1 or LPT# address. Is this possible with a net use ltp command, or is what I am attempting simply not possible??? I really need your assistance, thanks.
Asked by: Anonymous
This cable will not appear as an LPT port. It will appear as a USB printing support. It is only to be used with standard parallel printers. The printer port that you would select would be USB001 or USB002 depending on which one is available. It will not work with any other parallel device besides a printer.

Is there a way to turn off ECP mode? Device Manager shows IEEE1284 ECP Parallel Port LPT1. Don't want ECP mode, just old school. It used to be the BIOS setting, but LPT port modes may not be there since motherboards don't offer LPT ports. W7 OS Laptop.
Asked by: Dave
The mode is at PC level, the cable does not determine this.

I have software that requires a hardware dongle be attached to the parallel port at all times to validate the software. Does this cable support dongle communication? Also, is it compatible for use with VMware?
Asked by: Systems Engineer
This will not work with a parallel dongle. Our adapter will not be recognized as an LPT port. It is recognized as USB printing support.

I've only read reviews of this cable working with HP laserjet printers. I cannot find if it has been compatible with no problems for an HP large format designjet plotter for CADD drawings. Specifically a designjet 430. Is it compatible? Also, why don't you offer longer lengths than 6'?
Asked by: brian
This designed to work with standard printers. It works best with the driver built into the Windows OS. We cannot guarantee it is compatible with that HP DesignJet 430. You can extend the DB25 side with an extension cable if you need a longer length.
