Product Description
Use this adapter cable to connect your inkjet, laser or high speed printer to a computer without a parallel port. Forget the hassles of IRQ sharing by adapting your printer to USB. If you have multiple printers, you can eliminate the need for a switchbox by connecting each printer to a USB port.

The device is fully transparent to the user and is ideal for true bi-directional communication. This adapter auto-negotiates hardware recognition for faster protocol setup, and is fully plug-and-play compatible. This adapter cable is a perfect accessory for Microsoft® Surface® products and other leading laptops.

Note: This adapter is designed for use with a standard Parallel printer and is not designed to support multi-function printers or other parallel devices. This adapter uses the USB Printing Support function of the operating system and is not designed to create a LPT port.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Carolyn from excellent product I have some old zip disks and a drive that doesn't have a USB port. My laptop only has USB ports. How do I get the pictures from the disk to the computer? I went to the store and bought the wrong one. Who knew there are two different types of IEEE-1284 cables? I was able to enlarge the picture on cable-to-go's website to make sure I was ordering the right one this time. It works great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Mercer from Inexpensive solution This works great for a user that has a reliable printer(HP 1100 series) that has a Hewlett Packard mini centronix port. They can then use this adapter cable on a computer that does not have a paralel port and still utilize their existing cable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Stefanie from VERY HAPPY! I was so happy to get this cable. I have a HP Lazerjet 4000. I have owned the printer since 1998, used in a business setting-never had a problem with it. I bought a new computer that was not compatible with the printer. I was told be Dell that the adapters don't really work and they would be more than happy to sell me a new printer. I could not see getting rid of my current printer for no reason. I checked the local Radio Shack, they did not have the adapters either. I found this adapter, and ordered it. With Windows 7, the driver is already built in. All I had to do was plug it in, wait for it to register, and I was up and running with my old printer. Made my day!

Rated 5 out of 5 by ES from Windows 7 & HP Color LaserJet 4500 I needed a cable that could talk an out-of- production HP Color LaserJet 4500 printer. HP Printers and cables have a non-standard cable connection to the printer with a standard parallel connection to a 25pin parallel hook-up. This product was able to connect to the 25pin parallel end of the HP cable and provided the appropriate USB drivers to operate with Windows 7 software.

Rated 4 out of 5 by The Mechanic from This cable worked. Cable allowed me to connect new PC to old HP Laserjet printer.I did have to contact the customer service tech help to get printer to print any document.Would only print certain documents at first. The tech dept. helped me figure out that I needed to change the printer driver setting on the PC. I set it to the original HP 6P/6MP driver instead of the 6P/6MP postscript driver that was auto-installed when I first connected the cable. Now it prints all documents just like the old computer did.

where can i get an adapter for my HP 1100 laser jet to use on my computer. I need an adapter to make it fit using a usb connecter.
Asked by: Anonymous
We cannot guarantee that our USB adapter will work with the HP 1100 Laserjet printer. It uses a Micro-Centronics connector that is a non-standard connector. We do not have a USB product that we could guarantee compatibility with that printer.

I am attempting to connect my Dell Vostro laptop to my HP 4000 laserjet printer, through an A/B switch that requires a DB25M (male) connector. I am connecting the A/B switch because I also want to connect my Dell desktop to the printer. Would either Model# 22429. or Model# 16899, (with an adapter to switch the DB25 Female to a DB25 Male), work to connect the laptop to the A/B switch? The switch works flawlessly between the desktop and the HP printer.
Asked by: HowieAccountant
The part number 16899 would work with a db25 parallel cable connected to it. Our part number 22429 is only for serial devices and will not work with parallel devices.

This cable does not seem to work properly with Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. It is seen as an unknown device on several systems I have tried a few of these adapters with. Does it use the Prolific PL2305 chipset? Are there drivers available?
Asked by: Jay
It does use the Prolific chipset. There is not a driver for Windows 7 64bit. The driver that it uses is the USB printing support. You should only need to install the driver for your parallel printer.

will this work pugging the DB25 into a old computer (pentium and pentium II) and the USB into a new usb printer?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to connect a newer USB printer to a PC with a parallel port using this cable. If possible I would use a USB hub with your PC to add USB ports to allow you to use your printer.
