Product Description
Don't waste the parallel port on your inkjet, laser, or high speed printer. This cable uses the USB port on your PC or hub, so your parallel port remains free for a zip drive or scanner. Forget the hassles of IRQ sharing by adapting your printer to USB. If you have multiple printers, you can eliminate the need for a switchbox by connecting each printer to a USB port.

The device is fully transparent to the user, and is ideal for true bi-directional communication. This adapter auto-negotiates hardware recognition for faster protocol setup, and is fully plug-and-play compatible. This adapter cable is a perfect accessory for Microsoft® Surface® products and other leading laptops.

Note: This adapter is designed for use with a standard Parallel printer and is not designed to support multi-function printers or other parallel devices. This adapter uses the USB Printing Support function of the operating system and is not designed to create a LPT port.

Rated 5 out of 5 by stevereenie from I love this cable I love this cable. I was worried that there would be some type of conversion problem. I have a high output HP 4100 printer for high volume output of Tax Return Documents for many returns per year and was departing the computer world of parallel connections and didn't want to surrender this printer. I just love it!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mike from True plug and play Read and follow easy instructions that are included with adapter. I connected the adapter to my PC running XP pro and a HP 4 plus laser printer. The PC found the printer - I first had to change the USB to a printer port - this step is in instructions. I printed a test page - it is just that easy to connect and use a printer that requires a parallel port on a PC that has only USB connectionsp

Rated 4 out of 5 by geekboy from works well, but... The product works perfectly. I expected it to be the LPT port, and it ended up (obviously) being the USB port that I needed to point the printer to. The biggest problem with this product is that if your using it, you are probably using it with an old printer that windows 7 or newer may not have drivers for. look first. I had to hack a driver to get it to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by IJohn from Worked like a charm.. I wanted to use my laptop without a parallel port for my trusty old DEC Laser5100 printer. Installed printer driver to LPT1, then installed USB to Parallel cable adapter, and Windows XP recognized and installed the driver. Plugged cable to printer's parallel port, changed the printer port to USB001 and away we went. Perfect...

Rated 5 out of 5 by PaVa from Product perfectly solved a problem ! Solved a problem connecting an old HP LaserJet parallel printer to a new Macintosh running OS-X 10.7.4. Needed a parallel to USB cable and this one did the trick. Read several comments on Mac bulletin boards about how difficult this was, but with this cable, it turned out to be easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Riverside Dave from Worked Perfectly I connected the cable to a 20 year-old HP LaserJet 4MP printer and to my new computer and, after following the written directions that came with the cable (a very important step, I discovered), found that the printer worked as well as it ever has. I'm delighted with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BECR from Only one that worked with all printers. If you sign on to the computer as administrator and allow Windows Update to go out and find the driver for the cable and the printer, it works flawlessly. I tried two other brand names before this one and they did not work with certain printers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Leon the Tech from Quick connection for new computers. Purchased to allow continued use of our high volume duplicator. I used an in-line repeater and Cat5 cable to move the duplicator across the room. The adapter allowed easy connection between the repeater receiver and the printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ESG from New Computer, Old Printer The best thing is that it works. I have a new laptop with W7 64bit and my old printer (laserjet 2100) only has a parallel connection. Despite the fact that it was an adventure to get the driver right the cable works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Computer God from Works great! I found that it didn't work with a few HP printers but by and large, it works with just about everything else. I've recommended this product to everybody, as new computers rarely come with a parallel port these days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DB2 guy from Worked perfectly first time This is what you need to hook up an older printer with a centronics port to new computers with only USB ports. Plug the cable in, tell it to use virtual USB001 port, tell it what printer you have and you're done!

I have a Brother HL-2040 printer which uses a parallel port currently connected to a Micron PC running Windows XP Pro OS, and wish to connect to a HP d5200t desktop PC running Windows 7 Ultimate OS. Will your IEEE-1284 parallel printer adapter cable (item 16898) allow me to connect the printer's parallel port output to a USB connector, pls? If not, would the DB25 IEEE-1284 printer adapter cable (item 16899) be suitable? TIA.
Asked by: JayW
It appears that printer has both parallel and USB ports. I would recommend using a USB A/B cable like our part #28102.
