In the past, most conference room setups included a few devices for visual aid equipment which was often shared between rooms. Overhead projectors were used as a low cost means of transmitting notes or graphs from a sheet of transparent material. Film strip projectors with audio tapes for the sound track where used for informational videos. Chalk and marker boards were used by the facilitator to write notes for staff members to follow.
Modern conference room visual aid devices offer a better alternative to overcome many of the drawbacks associated with the use of past solutions. However, these devices can present a challenge to the installation process. Unlike past solutions which only required power to operate, modern devices require cabling to connect devices together such as a computer to a projector. Many educational environments have very few pathways within the structure for the installation of cabling. Pathways that are available may be too small for factory built cabling, which results in the need to run bulk cable and terminate connectors at each end. The process of field termination consumes time and resources and adds risk for error and performance.

A high school is installing a new conference room for faculty members to collaborate. The room does not have conduit in place and so a raceway will be used outside of the wall to run cabling from the wall near the podium to the projector. The distance from the wall to the projector is approximately 35ft away. An audio system will be installed with two speakers at the front of the room and an amplifier in the ceiling. To control the audio level, the audio cabling with be connected into the projector first and then out to the amplifier allowing the use of the projector remote control for audio adjustments.
The solution we recommend is our Classic Series™ composite A/V, VGA and 3.5mm cabling, integrated wall plate and speaker wire. The A/V, VGA and 3.5mm cable is run in raceway to a wall box in proximity to the front podium with the opposite end leading to the projector mounted on the ceiling. All cabling in the wall box is attached to its corresponding connection on the wall plate with the opposite end directly connected to the projector's corresponding inputs. A 3.5mm stereo audio cable (#40515) is connected from the audio output of the projector to the inputs of the amplifier located in a plenum box attached to the projector mount in the drop ceiling. A segment of speaker wire (#40535) is run to both speakers located at the front of the room.
