I love this cable
I love this cable. I was worried that there would be some type of conversion problem. I have a high output HP 4100 printer for high volume output of Tax Return Documents for many returns per year and was departing the computer world of parallel connections and didn't want to surrender this printer. I just love it!!!!

I had a old work horse 4000 series hp printer and a new computer without a parallel port. This cable let's me use my old printer (it even has a duplex printing adapter) and it works perfect!!!

Works better than expected
I had an old HP LasarJet L6 than only had a C36 interface. This cable quickly connected the printer to USB port and Windows XP immediately recognize the printer and it works prefectly.

Adapter works fine until the printer goes on standby. Once it does, the drivers are unloaded and the printer must be restarted followed by a restart of the PC. A real pain

Read and follow easy instructions that are included with adapter. I connected the adapter to my PC running XP pro and a HP 4 plus laser printer. The PC found the printer - I first had to change the USB to a printer port - this step is in instructions.
I printed a test page - it is just that easy to connect and use a printer that requires a parallel port on a PC that has only USB connectionsp

The product works perfectly. I expected it to be the LPT port, and it ended up (obviously) being the USB port that I needed to point the printer to. The biggest problem with this product is that if your using it, you are probably using it with an old printer that windows 7 or newer may not have drivers for. look first. I had to hack a driver to get it to work.

Installed printer driver to LPT1, then installed USB to Parallel cable adapter, and Windows XP recognized and installed the driver. Product perfectly solved a problem !
Solved a problem connecting an old HP LaserJet parallel printer to a new Macintosh running OS-X 10.7.4. Needed a parallel to USB cable and this one did the trick. Read several comments on Mac bulletin boards about how difficult this was, but with this cable, it turned out to be easy.

Only one that worked with all printers.
If you sign on to the computer as administrator and allow Windows Update to go out and find the driver for the cable and the printer, it works flawlessly. I tried two other brand names before this one and they did not work with certain printers.

Quick connection for new computers.
Purchased to allow continued use of our high volume duplicator. I used an in-line repeater and Cat5 cable to move the duplicator across the room. The adapter allowed easy connection between the repeater receiver and the printer.

New Computer, Old Printer
The best thing is that it works. I have a new laptop with W7 64bit and my old printer (laserjet 2100) only has a parallel connection. Despite the fact that it was an adventure to get the driver right the cable works great.

I found that it didn't work with a few HP printers but by and large, it works with just about everything else. I've recommended this product to everybody, as new computers rarely come with a parallel port these days.

I have a very High End printer for home use (Lexmark 4039 16L Plus) I've had since 1995 which has been great. Well, the new computers no longer have parallel ports. This was a life saver for me.

Worked perfectly first time
This is what you need to hook up an older printer with a centronics port to new computers with only USB ports. Plug the cable in, tell it to use virtual USB001 port, tell it what printer you have and you're done!

worked for a while then quit!!
It worked fine then quit. Spent hours trouble shooting and found out faulty cable. When or how does a cable go bad??? Permanant hook up so no movement at all ever! Go figure

I have Windows7 Pro and a HP 722C printer. In my search for a parallel-to-USB cable, I notice some come with driver(s) on a disc while others do not. Is there an advantage with the disc vs the Windows7 drivers?
It really depends. I know the HP722C requires a patch for Windows 7 64 bit OS. This would be regardless of the adapters with CD drivers or not. Our adapter would not require a driver because it uses a built in Windows driver. I would not recommend using that All in one device with the USB to parallel adapter. That adapter only works with standard printers not multifunction devices. The only product we would have is a parallel PCI card #16645.

Yes, it does work with a Windows 7 computer that only has USB ports. The port you would select to print to would be a USB virtual port like USB001 or USB002, etc. If the printer driver for you model of printer is built into the Windows 7 OS, that driver would still work with the USB port.

I have a new (unused and still in the box) CablesToGo USB to parallel printer cable (“PortAuthority2” per the box; bar code 7 57120 16898 0) I bought six years ago that APPEARS to be the same as your current #16898 (the installation CD label lists “USB to Parallel Adapter #16898” along with some other adapter cables). Per your Website, the #16898 is Windows 7 compatible, so I hope this cable will resolve this new printing problem, but want to verify that the specs and/or compatibility for a six-year-old “PortAuthority2” cable do/do not match those of a new #16898 sufficiently to resolve the issue. Please advise, and thanks for your assistance.

No. It will not be recognized as an LPT port. Our adapter will be recognized as USB printing support. So you would be printing to a virtual USB port. We unfortunately do not have a USB to parallel adapter that will be recognized as an LPT port.

Our adapter cable is designed to work with standard printers. It works best with generic built in Windows printer drivers. Plotters normally require specific drivers from the manufacturer which can have been known to have problems when using our USB to parallel adapter.
