Infrared (IR) Remote Control Repeater Kit

#40430

Product Features

Forward infrared signals to operate electronic components behind closed doors
• Allows for control of devices behind closed doors
• Includes emitters to control up to four devices
• LED light confirms IR communication

Product Description

Does your entertainment system have wooden doors, or would you like to mount your components in a closet? Without a clear line of sight infrared (IR) signals from a remote control will not reach the equipment. We have the answer. Our remote control repeater kit contains all equipment necessary to remotely operate 4 components (expandable to 12 components) using your standard remotes. Mount the IR receiver in a central location and connect to the IR distribution block. This block repeats the signals through emitters to your electronic components. Your components may now be mounted in your entertainment center, closet or another room! The kit is self-contained and easy to connect.

With this kit, you may mount a receiver in a convenient place on or near your entertainment system. The receiver has a 9 foot cable that is then attached to the repeater system that is mounted in your entertainment cabinet. The kit includes 4 emitters. These emitters are connected from the repeater system and placed over the IR receiver of the equipment.

The IR receiver and IR repeater have blinking blue LEDs to confirm receipt of the IR signal; the IR repeater is designed for mounting on shelf or wall. You can use your existing remotes for simple installation and hookups. Packaged for resale.

For your convenience, the AC/DC Adapter (#98025) is available for this item. To order this replacement part, please call us at 1-800-506-9607.

Please Note: Careful consideration must be used when placing the IR receiver near a plasma display. Since a plasma display emits IR frequencies during use, it may cause interference. At this time, the ATT U-Verse cable boxes are not compatible with the C2G, formerly Cables To Go, IR Receiver Kit. The product team at C2G is working hard to find a solution for this issue and will update you as soon as possible. Replacement components may be ordered online: 10ft Infrared Receiver with 3.5mm Plug (#98045), 10ft Single Infrared Emitter Cable (#40432) and 10ft Dual Infrared Emitter Cable (#40433).

When I had gotten the product I was excited about using this IR extender. I was disappointed that I had to modify the IR Receiver Cable in order to extend the cable at a distance of approximately 90', which I was hoping for pheniox connector. But because I'm very fimilar with controls and solder technics I had no problems. Although, I'm not all that fimilar with IR Extenders, I was rather disappointed at the manual and how it had a lack of informtion. This product works great for short distances to a simple plug n play.

I have a TV in my room and got this to install the cable box and DVD in the closet behind the TV. So far I have position the receiver in every possible position and the darn thing works intermittently. Tried also removing the glue from the sensor on the cable box, and still no luck.
So, called tech support and they only work the hours that I am at work.... great help that is......

No way would I recommend this at this time.

intermittent operation of the repeater

Pros

  • can control up to 12 devices

Cons

  • great repeater once you get it working

Best Uses

  • large room or many controlled devices

Comments about Infrared (IR) Remote Control Repeater Kit:

I bought this to control 8 identical IR devices in a "new configuration" setup. (I have 2000 of these devices to load software onto) When I setup the devices and positioned the IR emitters on the devices, I only got a few correct commands sent to the 8 devices. I "thought " the problem was not enough signal to the IR emitters on the devices. It turned out that the controlling handheld IR Remote was sending TOO MUCH signal to the IR Receiver, distorting the output signal through the repeater. I found some colored cellophane (flood light gel filters, if you are familiar with those), and was able to use a dark "neutral density" filter BLOCKING 90% of the light, and a red filter blocking everything below 700nm. I taped those over the RECEIVER pickup, and "VIOLA", the 8 devices responded perfectly.

So if you get intermittent control, try adding just a few pieces of satin scotch tape to the RECEIVER sensor to see if the control gets better. I was up to 5 pieces of tape with marginal improvement before I tried the colored and ND filters, and then had a repeatable solution.

Service and delivery comments:

Customer service did not catch this problem - that's why I went to lengths here to describe to solution. I also let them in on the fix for the next person having a similar problem.

          • 10ft Dual Band Infrared (IR) Receiver with 3.5mm Plug

            Q:

I'm looking for an IR extender that is compatible with a Cisco Explorer 4640HDC set-top box which operates at 57 kHz.

The cablebox manual notes that Cisco part # 1004648 can be plugged directly into the 3.5mm IR port on the back of the cablebox and power is supplied via the stereo plug.

Is your Dual Band IR Receiver (part # 98045) a suitable replacement for the Cisco receiver (i.e., can it be plugged directly into the IR port of the cablebox without the need for a connecting block)?

          • 10ft Dual Band Infrared (IR) Receiver with 3.5mm Plug

            Q:

I'm a little slow, so bear with me. The specs say Frequency Range - 34 to 60 KHz, which makes it sound like it will work on any frequency within that range. On the other hand, it also says dual band, which makes it sound like it will only work at 34 and 60. I need it for a cisco 9865 cable dvr box which requires 57khz, is this compatible?
