This USB-C mini dock supports up to 100W of power delivery to charge and power mobile laptops when using the USB-C power adapter that is included with the laptop. I cannot make the HDMI port work. I have a BenQ fullHD monitor. If I connect the monitor directly to the HDMI port on my laptop (acer aspire) it works. If I unplug it, connect it to the port on the C2G (same cable, same port on monitor), it does not work.
New, never used. There is no extension cable, I directly plugged it to my laptop using its USB-C slot. Ethernet is working fine on the unit, only HDMI is not working.

can the usb-c port be used as a 4th usb port when not used for power deliver (ie can i plug my usb-c android phone etc , in there to share data and get that device charged instead of only putting a pd brick into it and its a waste if not used for that?)
Yes, but this port will not support fast charging as it is sharing power between other connections.

What do I need to do to use the SD card port?
Insert your SD card into the port. SD Card Reader to transfer pictures, video, or other multimedia

I use the 54458 dock with my Inspiron 16 Plus laptop. Is it normal for the dock to get hot?
These docking stations will get slightly hot as their are many chips inside the device working at the same time.
