Combined with a black 5.25 to 3.5 converter kit & any 8pin usb cable, it makes a great backup drive.1. ask any tech store for a standard 8pin mainboard USB connector cable (any length)they're free.2. cut the pin module off of it about 4" and remove the metal connector pins carefully w/ a regular jewelry screwdriver from all five leeds.3. Cut the A end off the hub's USB cable as close as possible to the A end & strip back the sheathing about 2".4. Solder ("YES I said solder!" you bunch of lazy unskilled potato heads) the cut USB cable leeds to the metal pins or their tails, matching colors correctly. I recommend using heat shrink tubing over each splice. (cut & slide on & out of way BEFORE soldering)5. Now connect it to the mainboard's internal USB pins...."WAA LAA" (...routing it outside the case ...!, what car-wash do you ppl work at?)6. Mount the hub into the converter kit and recess it back 3/4 the distance of the length of any USB flash/thumb drive. (now they don't stick out during the backup so they are less likely to be damaged by some user poking around)7. Mount the hub w/ converter frame into a server and use any quality backup software which allows "backup-2-disk" destinations, scheduling, & drive pooling.8. Now you can throw away all the tapes & watch gigabytes of data backup at 480mbps automatically every night to small portable solid-state storage.[...]ENJOY.

The PC board in it is fine. However the screw holes don't like up with standard 3.5" bay holes and the wire has to be routed outside the computer and plugged into an existing USB port. So you lose one port. Thus your net gain in USB ports is only 3. Yes it works, but it should use a motherboard plug for the connection instead of wasting an existing port on the outside of the computer. I kept it because I got 3 more ports which was enough but I'd never buy another one.

I would have preferred that the device hook up to the 8 pin USB header on the motherboard. Luckily I had USB add on card that had an internal connection which was compatible with the connector on the hub. After that, it works flawlessly.
