Comments about Cables To Go 4-Port USB 2.0 Front-Bay Hub - Beige:

Got these items as a quick fix to my home net work. Bought two. Tried on several machines. Low voltage leeks on both units on 4 different machines. The leeks cause random led case and device lights to stay on when nothing is on or in use. Random per machine; could be power led, HD led, DVD led, even some internal led lights on motherboard, in one case a power supply led light. Removing them from power supply plug stopped random lights. Function was always there in new 4 usb ports as long as plugged into power supply. Could use this way but unknown if damage could result over time to system. Removed will not use them.

Comments about Cables To Go 4-Port USB 2.0 Front-Bay Hub - Beige:

Well made 3.5" bay device hosting USB 2.0 front I/O ports. This is a powered hub, so one must connect the supplied Molex power cable to the PSU front bay device daisy chain. The supplied USB cable does NOT connect to the mainboard header - it must either be routed through a slotted rear I/O bracket to a rear USB 2.0 I/O port, or to a PCI card with a standard USB 2.0 internal header. Alternatively, one can configure an adapter cable for native mainboard header connection. Nicely designed, looks classy.

Comments about Cables To Go 4-Port USB 2.0 Front-Bay Hub - Beige:

Combined with a black 5.25 to 3.5 converter kit & any 8pin usb cable, it makes a great backup drive.1. ask any tech store for a standard 8pin mainboard USB connector cable (any length)they're free.2. cut the pin module off of it about 4" and remove the metal connector pins carefully w/ a regular jewelry screwdriver from all five leeds.3. Cut the A end off the hub's USB cable as close as possible to the A end & strip back the sheathing about 2".4. Solder ("YES I said solder!" you bunch of lazy unskilled potato heads) the cut USB cable leeds to the metal pins or their tails, matching colors correctly. I recommend using heat shrink tubing over each splice. (cut & slide on & out of way BEFORE soldering)5. Now connect it to the mainboard's internal USB pins...."WAA LAA" (...routing it outside the case ...!, what car-wash do you ppl work at?)6. Mount the hub into the converter kit and recess it back 3/4 the distance of the length of any USB flash/thumb drive. (now they don't stick out during the backup so they are less likely to be damaged by some user poking around)7. Mount the hub w/ converter frame into a server and use any quality backup software which allows "backup-2-disk" destinations, scheduling, & drive pooling.8. Now you can throw away all the tapes & watch gigabytes of data backup at 480mbps automatically every night to small portable solid-state storage.[...]ENJOY.

Comments about Cables To Go 4-Port USB 2.0 Front-Bay Hub - Beige:

The PC board in it is fine. However the screw holes don't like up with standard 3.5" bay holes and the wire has to be routed outside the computer and plugged into an existing USB port. So you lose one port. Thus your net gain in USB ports is only 3. Yes it works, but it should use a motherboard plug for the connection instead of wasting an existing port on the outside of the computer. I kept it because I got 3 more ports which was enough but I'd never buy another one.

I would have preferred that the device hook up to the 8 pin USB header on the motherboard. Luckily I had USB add on card that had an internal connection which was compatible with the connector on the hub. After that, it works flawlessly.
