Great for connecting MacBook® Pro to older video cameras with 4 or 6 pin DV Firewire! IEEE-1394b is the latest in FireWire technology, and our IEEE-1394b or FireWire 800 cable provides transfer speeds up to a blazing 800 Mbps! This is twice the speed of the original 1394 standard, and is a real must-have for transporting and networking multiple types of digital data between users and systems. Digital Video (DV) camcorders, scanners, printers, videoconferencing cameras, and fixed disk drives can all share a common bus connection not only to a PC, but to each other as well. With Windows® ME® or Apple's FireWire Target Disk Mode you can use an IEEE-1394b cable to connect two computers together to enable filesharing. Hot-pluggable, our FireWire supports plug-and-play operation. This cable is designed to be 100% compatible with Apple® FireWire®, Sony® iLink®, and all other IEEE-1394 peripherals; also compatible with PC, Mac®, Sun® and other IEEE-1394 equipped computers. Twisted pair cabling and shielded construction ensure our IEEE-1394b cable meets or exceeds current IEEE-1394b standards. Molded strain relief protects ensures years of trouble-free data transmissions. When connecting to 1394a legacy devices, the data transfer speed is 400 Mbps due to 1394a limitations. Connector 1: 9-pin 1394b Male Connector 2: 4-pin 1394a Male Please Note: FireWire® and the FireWire symbol are trademarks of Apple® Computer, Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. The FireWire logo is a trademark of Apple Computer, Inc. This product is not manufactured or endorsed by Apple Computer, Inc.

It's difficult to tell the precise shape of a connector on a firewire cable from the photo on the internet catalog, so I assumed when I ordered a firewire cable to connect to my Panasonic camcorder it would be fine. A fire wire cable is a fire wire cable right? Well maybe not! The rectangular shaped black plastic IEEE end of the cable does not configure to my iMac G4 and the so the cable is useless to me. I'm hoping the correct cable is available and Cables to Go will make the exchange [...]

Comments about Cables To Go 3m IEEE-1394b FireWire® 800 9-pin to 4-pin Cable (9.8ft):

i needed something to tether a canon 1ds mark II (4 pin) to a new macbook pro (9 pin) and figured an adapter (6 to 9 pin) wasnt the way to go.

so far the length hasn't been an issue, since i have limited space where i shoot...so... so far so good.

my one, quasi-con is the stiffness of the cord. normally i would consider this a pro, because it feels very heavy duty and tough, however, since i have this attached to my camera as i shoot, i'm very aware of the cord and wished it "moved" with me in a more fluid manner.

i will say that i've had connection issues while shooting tethered, HOWEVER i think this cable is the LEAST likely culprit, since its physical connection seems pretty good. i think its far more likely some software glitch in the canon program or setting im unaware of.

overall i'm quite happy with my purchase.

Comments about Cables To Go 3m IEEE-1394b FireWire® 800 9-pin to 4-pin Cable (9.8ft):

It was a perfect solution to the upgrading of the Firewire ports on the new MacBook Pros. I needed a cable to hook up my Cannon HV30 Camcorder and after going to 5 major retail stores with no luck, this solved my problem!! Now I can transfer video with ease and speed. Even though it might be a bit pricey, this cable is truly hard to find in stores so it is worth the investment.
