Used on my laptop to my home theater, works like a charm. Make sure you change the sound properties on your to the "Digital Output" on the playback devices. Started to get curious and plugged the 3.5 into the iPod 3rd gen. Sadly did not work. Defiantly needs a special headphone/optical out all in one to work.

I had a very high end firewire interface to make my iMac's music sound better. I bought one of the Mini Toslink to optical cables and went from my iMac into an optical in on my Digi 002. Wow! Astonishingly clear. I then had eight great "ears" do an A/B test and the Toslink set-up won hands down. Thanks for a great product.

If you have a Mac or an HP Laptop, you might be scratching your head trying to figure out how the combination headphone/SPDIF or Line Out/SPDIF jack on your machine works. It is most likely a combination optical and electrical jack, and this cord is the one you need to convert from the mini-jack to a TOS-Link cable.
