Comments about Cables To Go 6.3mm (1/4in) Stereo Male to RCA Female Adapter:

The way there are wired seem to preclude their being useful for anything.

We use a lot of RCA to 1/4" adapters to connect consumer and semi-pro gear to our studio consoles. Normally things work quite well. This time we plugged in a laptop's headphone out to a 1/8" TRS to twin RCA cable, put these adapters on the end, and plugged in to the back of a Yamaha 02R. No signal. Pulled it out a click. No signal. Replaced them with RCA to 1/4" mono adapters and all was well. We tested these adapters and found the positive of the RCA goes to both the tip and the sleeve of the 1/4"; that means they do exactly nothing when hooked to a balanced input.

I'm trying to figure out what these could be used for, and can't come up with anything. Next time we will make sure we get RCA to mono 1/4"!

Cables To Go Response: We emailed Radio Guy back with this question: "We have a few of these pulled from stock so we could test the pinout on them and all of the them tested that the tip and ring went to the positive on the RCA end and the sleeve went to the negative. For your application, were you going from a 3.5mm on a laptop out to dual RCA cable and then putting these adapters on the end of the RCA plugs?" He responded: "Yes, that's exactly the setup we used. When plugged into the line inputs on the Yamaha 02R, the positive signal went to both the positive and negative on the 02R's 1/4" input jacks. This didn't hurt anything, except perhaps my pride in being able to hook things up. We swtiched out the 40640 adapters with some RCA to 1/4" tip-sleeve adapters and everything worked." In other words, he was using this adapter for the wrong application.
